Always on the look out for great kids books about art and artists. I find that teaching kids about art can sometimes be difficult, especially the visually arts, which is kind of just showing them pictures, funny enough that why I’m big into coffee tables books, but pictures alone never tell the full story. Came across Small Stories of Great Artists by Laurence Anholt, which I absolutely love. It is published by Taschen so it’s a bit pricey at $40, but I think it is well worth it, it’s hardcover, has 336 pages and cover quite a few artists, Da Vinci, Van Gogh, Picasso, Kahlo, Monet, and many others. The drawings are beautiful and easy for kids to relate to while still staying true to original art works. Storylines are simple, fun and easy to relate to. Excellent book and excellent value considering the depth of the subject(s).
If you’re like me then you like doing things, we can sort of say in groups, complimentary, having a great general history of art style coffee table book and a few of the Little People Big Dreams books, with Small Stories Great Artists is really going to make a good impact on your kids and help reinforce recognition.
There are a number of other similar books by Taschen which I have not gone through yet. Will update if I do.
